How We Handle Your Traffic Ticket

Our process is designed to be efficient, thorough, and tailored to your situation.

We evaluate:

  • Your driving record (South Carolina and out-of-state)
  • The specific offense and potential points
  • The officer who issued the ticket
  • The jurisdiction and court procedures
  • Your court date and timeline
  • The circumstances of the traffic stop and your interaction with law enforcement

From there, we build a customized defense strategy based on your unique situation.

Options to Reduce or Dismiss Your Ticket

Depending on your case, you may be eligible for diversion or reduction programs such as:

  • Traffic Education Program (TEP)
  • Conditional Discharge
  • Gateway Programs
  • Defensive Driving Courses
  • Community Service
  • Drug Testing or Deferrals

Our Goal is Always a Dismissal of Your Ticket
Whenever Possible.

If dismissal is not available, we work to reduce the charge, which can lower:

Points on your license

Fines and court costs

Insurance impact

Traffic violations affecting license and insurance rates in SC

Protect Your License and Insurance Rates

Even a single ticket can have long-term consequences.

We focus on helping you:

  • Avoid points on your driving record
  • Prevent license suspension
  • Minimize insurance increases or SR-22 requirements
  • Protect your current and future employment

Simply paying a ticket or pleading “guilty” or “no contest” can result in consequences that follow you for years.

Act Quickly. Deadlines Matter.

There is often a short window of time before your court date. Waiting too long can limit your options and increase the risk of penalties.

Taking action early gives you more opportunities to improve the outcome.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Points may be added to your license
  • Insurance rates may increase
  • The violation becomes part of your record
  • Who you hire to represent you!
  • Your driving record
  • The specific charge
  • The court handling your case
  • The officer and circumstances of the stop
  • Paying the ticket without understanding consequences
  • Missing your court date
  • Ignoring the ticket
  • Assuming it’s “not a big deal”

In many cases, no. If we represent you, we can often appear on your behalf and handle everything without you going to court. It might take two (2) or three (3) trips to court for various reasons, but we will handle all of them for you if the court allows it.

Yes. Points on your license can increase your insurance rates, sometimes for several years. Even a careless driving (in SC) which carries no points, actually carries “silent insurance points” which can increase your insurance rates.

ABSOLUTELY! Some tickets can be dismissed or reduced depending on the circumstances, your driving record, and the officer, attorney court handling the case.

We are in different courts several times a week, we know the propensities of each officer and each prosecutor—you don’t. It has taken us years to build relationships. We can use our knowledge to help you towards the best result the court allows. This is a “no-brainer!”

YES! Avoiding points and insurance increases can save you significantly more than the cost of the ticket. Insurance rates remain high for YEARS. While a two (2) point ticket and a minimal fine seems like nothing, it can often cost you much, much more over the next few years.

You may have had a bench warrant or a failure to appear issued. These can result in your arrest if you encounter an officer who notices it in the NCIC as an active warrant. Also, if entered into the DMV system, your license could be suspended. We can do a motion to reopen and try to get the matter brought back to the original court for a hearing. This is often successful and allows us remove the bench warrant or the failure to appear and then to negotiate a different outcome on your behalf. This procedure is more involved and is of course, more expensive than the timely handling of the original ticket might have been.
