A traffic ticket may seem minor—but the long-term effects can add up quickly. Taking the right steps now can help protect your driving privileges, your record, and your finances.
In many cases, no. If we represent you, we can often appear on your behalf and handle everything without you going to court. It might take two (2) or three (3) trips to court for various reasons, but we will handle all of them for you if the court allows it.
Yes. Points on your license can increase your insurance rates, sometimes for several years. Even a careless driving (in SC) which carries no points, actually carries “silent insurance points” which can increase your insurance rates.
ABSOLUTELY! Some tickets can be dismissed or reduced depending on the circumstances, your driving record, and the officer, attorney court handling the case.
We are in different courts several times a week, we know the propensities of each officer and each prosecutor—you don’t. It has taken us years to build relationships. We can use our knowledge to help you towards the best result the court allows. This is a “no-brainer!”
YES! Avoiding points and insurance increases can save you significantly more than the cost of the ticket. Insurance rates remain high for YEARS. While a two (2) point ticket and a minimal fine seems like nothing, it can often cost you much, much more over the next few years.
You may have had a bench warrant or a failure to appear issued. These can result in your arrest if you encounter an officer who notices it in the NCIC as an active warrant. Also, if entered into the DMV system, your license could be suspended. We can do a motion to reopen and try to get the matter brought back to the original court for a hearing. This is often successful and allows us remove the bench warrant or the failure to appear and then to negotiate a different outcome on your behalf. This procedure is more involved and is of course, more expensive than the timely handling of the original ticket might have been.
